Natural Childbirth

We just started telling people this week that I'm pregnant and the congratulations begin.  Then we tell them we intend to do natural childbirth (no drugs) and everyone suddenly has an opinion.  Mark actually was told by someone this weekend that we have to do whatever the hospital tells us to do and that we have no say in anything.  Are you kidding me?  I'm not against drugs but I've done a lot of research in the last 2 months.  Natural all comes down to being prepared for what is going to happen, be trained in techniques that not only ease pain but further the baby and your body along, and better positions for actually birthing the baby.  I really want to be able to move around as I please and not be tied to a bed.  I've been stuck in a hospital bed for 3 days with my crohns disease and it was the worst experience of my life and really depressing.  I don't want that for the birth of my baby.  I want a happy joyous experience.

Knowledge is power and the resources are abundant.  I'm considering hiring a doula to help while in the hospital, but that will be dependent upon how natural birth friendly our hospital is.  We will have to tour soon to find out.

If anyone did natural childbirth or knows someone who did, I would love to hear your experience and anything that helped you.
